I saw this question on the Internet and I thought is interesting...
What is your take?
My understanding is that the Soul and the Mind were interchangeable in this tri-union...but let's talk about it...

Hey Brother Daniel,
Thanks for posting this question. While I do not consider my self a theologian I have a couple of thoughts that I would like to share. I have been trained and educated that the Greek word for soul is psyche. Some argue that it has various meaning in both the Old and New Testament. And that it should be considered a different entity from spirt. However, I tend to agree with Paul in 1Thess 5 and also from a psychological perspective, this makes good sense. Matthew 16:26 and Luke 9:25 are somewhat similar (soul/self) one uses soul and the other self. It can be reasoned that the soul is the self (person). I like to think of the nature of man in this way: Within the body, man is in contact with the physical world around him. With his spirit, man has the potential of being in contact with the inner or spiritual (spiritual aspect of man). In between the two, resides the soul, with its psychological, emotional and mental functions (the psychological aspect of man). I provide counseling, teaching and guidance based on this understanding

Ok Brother Daniel:
You said sould and spirit in your subject line but soul and mind in your text. This is what I found on the spirit of man.
Proverbs 20:27
Zechariah 12 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
1 The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel.
Thus declares the LORD who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.
The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the innermost parts of his being.
This is what I found on the mind:
Job 15:35 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
35 “They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity,
And their mind prepares deception.”
Job 38:36 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
36 “Who has put wisdom in the innermost being
Or given understanding to the mind
This is what I found on the Soul:
Romans 2:9 King James Version (KJV)
9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
Genesis 2:7 King James Version (KJV)
7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Man is composed of three parts: spirit, soul, and body. The Bible shows us that man not only has a spirit, but a body also; he not only has a spirit and a body, but a soul as well. Why must man have a soul even though he has a spirit and a body? The soul lies between the spirit and the body and serves as a medium between the spirit and the body. The soul is the part which interposes. Everything that God wants to make known to us, He makes known through the intuition of the spirit. The spirit gives us God-consciousness; it enables us to have communication with God and sense God. The body is given to us by God to communicate with the world; through the body we can feel everything in the world. God has also given us a soul, which gives us self-consciousness and by which we can sense ourselves. Human beings are not like angels who have only a spirit without a body. Human beings have a spirit and a body. Our soul, the buffer zone, is between the spirit and the body. Everything of our spirit and body is expressed through our soul.
